Bakie Farm Initiative booth at the New England Vegetable & Fruit Conference (Dec 10-12, 2019)

Last weekend we went to our first trade show, the New England Vegetable & Fruit Conference in Manchester, New Hampshire. We were launching our distribution efforts, selling equipment for Terrateck, a French developer and manufacturer of high-end farm implements, and helping present steam generators made by Sioux, a South Dakota based corporation, used for sterilizing soil in greenhouses and nurseries. Pictured here, and almost entirely filling our booth, are Terrateck’s brush weeder and greens harvester. The brush weeder, which is only partially assembled here, is used for clearing weeds along plastic bed cover, a process that is usually labor intensive and tedious. This thing doesn’t take prisoners! The greens harvester pictured here is owned by Josh Jennings of Meadows Mirth Farm who has been farming at Bakie this season. He and Andre at Heron Pond Farm have been using this for over two years now and it’s quite a machine. Again, it is an enormous time saver. It comes in four sizes to correspond with bed widths and is fully automatic, running for up to five hours on a single battery charge. There was a great deal of interest in both products and watching folks inspect these machines enables me to say with conviction that New England farmers are not impulse buyers. Andre was kept very busy answering questions about exactly how it works. We’re excited to introduce these models in the United States!
